Earth Law Center’s Resources for
Community Advocates

Earth Law Portal

September 2023, ELC and partners launched this groundbreaking digital platform designed to empower environmental advocacy and drive action for the protection and restoration of the planet. The Earth Law Portal serves as a dynamic hub, providing accessible legal models, letters, videos, podcasts, reports, and other tools to empower communities, governments, and everyone to take action for Nature and the well-being of local communities.

Community Toolkit
for Rights of Nature

The Community Toolkit for Rights of Nature has been created for communities who want to expand their role in the protection of Nature through the passing of Rights of Nature laws at the local level.

This Toolkit aims to concisely summarize the history, drivers, and results of the Rights of Nature movement in U.S. communities. We hope it will provide useful guidance as you consider expanding the protection of your local ecosystems and species.

Plastic Pollution Toolkit

This Toolkit is for citizens of coastal settlements around the world. Its aim is to provide guidance for anyone who wishes to advance ecocentric law and policy in their area.

This Toolkit gives examples of policies and strategies that local communities can implement to minimize marine plastic pollution. These strategies are largely based on the postulates of Earth law, or Earth Jurisprudence, which is a body of law that recognizes humans’ interconnectedness with Nature as well as Nature’s inherent right to exist, thrive, and evolve.

Dark Sky Reserves

Earth Law Center has launched a new campaign to recognize Nature’s inherent right to dark skies.

With the Rights of Nature being recognized throughout the world, we must begin to promote holistic ecosystem health as a right. Though lesser-known than other environmental needs, dark skies are fundamental to the well-being of both ecosystems and humans.
