The Animals’ Lawsuit Against Humanity
Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, 10am-12pm
In-person + Livestream Viewing
Experience the premiere live reading of this new version of an ancient fable in which animals take humans to court for their poor treatment. This innovative performance highlights the work of the Earth Law Center and the broader Rights of Nature movement, advocating for the legal recognition of animals’ and Nature’s rights. Don’t miss this compelling blend of theater and activism that gives animals a voice on the stage—just as we work to give them a voice in court.

Rivers as a Catalyst for Change
Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, 12-4pm
In-person + Livestream Viewing
Earth Law Center Education invites you to explore the Rights of Rivers movement and emerging field of Earth law at New York Law School. Join leading Earth law educators, including the primary authors and editors of the course book Earth Law: Emerging Ecocentric Law--A Guide for Practitioners, for this comprehensive introduction to Rights of Nature work on rivers and to the field of ecocentric law more broadly.
We will examine this paradigm shift in environmental law through:
Two short film screenings: "Last Stand: Saving the Elwha River's Legacy Forests," and "Atlanta to the Atlantic: Connecting Communities to the South River"
An introduction to Earth law, followed by a panel discussion, a "movement lawyering" workshop, and reception
Earth Law Colloquium: Aligning our laws with Nature’s laws.
Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024
Join us for 1, 2, 3, 4 or all 5 of our expert panels exploring the roots, shoots, and flowers of the growing field of Earth law (also known as ecocentric law). In between the two sets of panels, experience a guided immersion into a world of soundscape and visual art that harmonizes Rights of Nature and climate science education, in a deep ecology installation by Carine Gibert of Grounded in Motion. When the afternoon is over, stay for food, drinks, and networking in an inspiring and collaborative setting with activists, artists and professionals committed to advancing Earth law.
