Fellowship Opportunities

Earth Law Center (ELC) periodically hosts individual fellows or fellowship programs. If you have an opportunity to win a fellowship through your law or graduate school and would like to have ELC as an external host, send an email with details to volunteer@earthlaw.org.

Currently, ELC’s only ongoing fellowship program is the Earth Lawyers Fellowship, which is a unique opportunity for retired, semi-retired, or late-career lawyers and legal professionals to receive an orientation to the field of Earth law and contribute to projects being undertaken by ELC.

Use this Google Form to read more and apply.

Testimonial about the Earth Lawyers Fellowship:

“The Earth Lawyers Fellowship is perfect for retired legal professionals who have always been concerned about humanity’s impact on the environment, or who just love the natural world. The Fellowship is an opportunity to get involved in the environmental movement, regardless of whether your practice was in environmental law. More important than the area of law in which you practiced is the ability to think outside of the box—or even the room—as Earth Law is forging a new direction and making new law.

If you like to be creative, are good at research, can work together with other attorneys from all different backgrounds, and are excited to help shape new law, then the Earth Lawyers Fellowship is for you. I personally found the Fellowship challenging and immensely rewarding, and it allowed me to make new friends with like-minded and incredibly talented people I would not have otherwise met. I will always cherish my time in Durango and look forward to continuing my work with the Earth Law Center.”—Gary Friedlander, Earth Lawyers Fellowship Alumnus from Chicago, Illinois
