15 June 2012: The President of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, has released the report of its second high-level interactive dialogue on Harmony with Nature, held in New York, US, on 18 April 2012. This dialogue focused on scientific findings on the impacts of human activities on the functioning of the Earth System.
The dialogue promoted an exchange of ideas and experiences from multiple perspectives, with particular attention on the contribution of science. Presentations stressed: the need to pursue a sustainable path, taking into account the Earth’s regenerative and carrying capacities; and the ecological macroeconomics of biodiversity conservation, with a focus on preparations for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). Participants raised questions on economic growth, rights of nature and the Earth’s regenerative capacity.
